He has authored 28 or 29 books since 1965.<\/p>\n<p>This piece describes McPhee&#8217;s experiences with editors of the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">New Yorker<\/span> and his publisher. Its interesting and amusing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Robert Gottlieb replaced William Shawn as editor of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The New Yorker<\/span> in 1987. If eccentricity was a criterion for the job, Bob was qualified.
