{"id":317,"date":"2009-07-02T15:39:52","date_gmt":"2009-07-02T19:39:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kevinrkosar.com\/wordpress\/?p=317"},"modified":"2009-07-10T10:59:28","modified_gmt":"2009-07-10T14:59:28","slug":"american-foundation-for-continuing-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kevinrkosar.com\/wordpress\/american-foundation-for-continuing-education\/","title":{"rendered":"American Foundation for Continuing Education"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to the Syracuse University Library, which holds the papers of the American Foundation for Continuing Education:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Beginning in 1947 as the American Foundation for Political Education, this organization developed liberal education materials for study-discussion programs focused on politics, law, and international affairs; helped organizations, agencies, and institutions through consultation, program development, and leadership training; and prepared special materials on liberal arts and politics for business and industry &#8230;.\u00a0 The Foundation ended most of its activities other than publications and revisions in 1965.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Foundation funded a series of &#8220;case studies&#8221; on American politics, which were edited by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aei.org\/scholar\/23\">Robert A. Goldwin<\/a>. \u00a0 It was an interesting idea &#8212; use engaging short fictional stories to educate individuals about complex political problems.\u00a0 Two examples of these didactic short stories are:<\/p>\n<p>Edward C. Banfield, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kevinrkosar.com\/Edward-C-Banfield\/Edward-C-Banfield-Growing-Problem.pdf\">Growing Problem<\/a>,\u201d (Chicago, IL: American Foundation for Continuing Education, 1959).<\/p>\n<p>Edward C.
