I visited the Pollock-Krasner house this past summer. (My photographs are here.) I was struck by how out in the woods it was. Turn back the clock 60 years when Pollock was there, and it must have been unbelievably quiet.

Except for the rowdiness of Pollock himself, and the boozy crowd he drew. Before he killed himself by drunkenly crashing his car into a tree, Pollock had an affair with a young woman who later claimed to be in possession of his very last painting.

This article is a guilty read, but it raises an interesting question, “Who should decide whether a piece of art is a Pollock (or a Rembrandt or…)?”
